A small single-engine Van’s RV-10 aircraft crashed into a commercial warehouse in Fullerton, California, on Thursday, killing two people and injuring 18 others. The crash occurred at 2:09 PM near Fullerton Municipal Airport, located approximately 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The plane struck the roof of the warehouse, which houses Michael Nicholas Designs, a furniture upholstery manufacturing facility, causing a fire that spread quickly throughout the building.
The crash led to the evacuation of more than 100 people from the warehouse. Firefighters responded quickly to the scene and extinguished the fire by 3:25 PM. The aircraft’s impact created a fireball, sending large plumes of smoke into the sky. Security camera footage from the scene captured the moment of the crash, showing the plane bursting into flames after hitting the building’s roof.
Among the 18 injured individuals, 10 were transported to local hospitals for treatment, while 8 others were treated and released on-site. Fullerton Police confirmed that the injuries ranged from minor to serious, though no details on specific conditions were provided. The identities of the deceased have not yet been disclosed. It is unclear whether the victims were passengers on the plane or workers inside the building.
The FAA identified the aircraft as a Van’s RV-10, a four-seat experimental plane. Flight data from FlightAware indicated that the plane had just taken off from Fullerton Municipal Airport at 2:07 PM. According to audio from air traffic control, the pilot requested an emergency landing, initially choosing Runway 6 before switching to Runway 24. Shortly after, a panicked gasping sound and a transmission of “Oh my God” were heard, before communication ceased.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. The NTSB will look into factors such as mechanical failure, pilot error, and other possible causes. Multiple emergency agencies, including Fullerton Police and Fire Departments, as well as other local law enforcement and fire units, responded to the crash. Authorities have indicated that they will release the names of the victims pending notification of their families.
